1. How long have you been an Engineer and what discipline? How many years of experience do you have in total?

Fasi: I graduated in 2007 as an Aeronautical Engineer from JNTU, India. Right after my graduation I started my MBA from University of Wales, UK and finished my MBA in 2010. In 2013, I joined Swagelok's global network as a Technical Sales Engineer and have seven years of engineering experience.

2. In your own words, can you describe what you do at Swagelok Central Ontario | Atlantic Canada and how you help our customers with their challenges? What does a day in the life look like?

Fasi: I work as a Regional Field Engineer, and every day is a new and exciting challenge. My days vary and are filled with activities that help our customers and our global organization. These activities include helping customers with technical product details related to their applications, performing on-site or virtual visits to inspect customers' systems, and attending break out sessions with our local engineering team and Swagelok's global network of Field Engineers to discuss customers' applications and nagging fluid system challenges.

3. How did you get started in this industry? What do you enjoy about it?

Fasi: After completing my MBA, I moved to Saudi Arabia. I wanted to work in the Oil and Gas industry when I came across Swagelok. They were starting their operation in Saudi Arabia. It was a perfect opportunity for me to begin my career. The best thing about working for Swagelok is the diversity of business and the opportunity to service a broad range of industries. This is what makes it so unique.

4. What do you find rewarding about your work as an engineer? What do you see as your impact on customers?

Fasi: Building trust as a subject matter expert and diagnosing customers' problems to help them be more efficient in their processes is very rewarding to me personally and very impactful to our customers' success, safety, and profitability.

5. What is the most notable customer challenge you've helped solve recently? Anything unique or different?

Fasi: One of my customers, a 400,000 barrels per day (BPD) refinery was sampling highly toxic Hydrofluoric Acid (HF). Their utmost concern was material compatibility and operator safety. However, their stainless steel was corroding fast and their sampling method was not safe for their operators. We worked with them to design a new system, keeping in mind safety and ease of operation. We used a Hastelloy material for the basis of their grab sampling system, which allowed them to build a system with HF. The design included a 3-way valve for easy operation and additional shut off valves for extra safety on their inlet and outlet lines. Also, we incorporated a flow meter for visible confirmation of HF flow, which helped the operator with safe sample collection. This solution was widely lauded and enhanced the safety and efficiency of our customer's operations.

6. Besides basic necessities, what is one thing you could not go a day without?

Fasi: I consider myself very adaptable. So, I would still be fine on an isolated island. That being said, family plays a big role in my life and it's hard to go a day without talking to them.

7. Tell us a little bit about your hobbies or interests outside of work. What inspires you?

Fasi: I have always been a sports person and love to do activities outside. I was a professional Judo player for eight years while in school and university. I also enjoy hikes and travelling to new places.

8. Ask me about _________?

Fasi: Reach out to me about grab sampling techniques, sample system maintenance, process analyzers, or any other technical questions you may have in regards to sampling in general.
